The Toronto Blue Jays are heading to the World Series and appear to be getting one of their key bats back in the lineup.

Following the Jays come from behind victory over the Mariners yesterday in Game 7 of the ALCS, reporters were quick to ask the start shortstop about his status for the upcoming World Series. His response?

“I’ll be ready… I’m good.”

Short, sweet, and to the point – the typical Bo Bichette way.

Bichette hasn’t played since suffering a knee sprain against the New York Yankees back on September 6th. The right-handed bat was a key contributor this season for the Jays, postined a .311/.357/.483 slash line with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs, despite a slow start to the campaign in the power department. Bichette also added a .840 OPS and produced a 3.4 bWAR, and was leading the league in both hits (181) and doubles (44) before landing on the IL.

The Florida product seemed like he could have been a late addition to the ALCS roster but came up grimacing around the bases just days before the series matchup, prompting the Jays to keep the roster intact from the ALDS. Even when Anthony Santander landed on the IL midway through the Mariners series, Toronto added Joey Loperfido into the mix instead of Bichette.

While the shortstop has been doing running drills in the outfield throughout the ALCS, he has yet to run the bases since his last incident, so it remains to be seen how effective he may be on the diamond and the batter’s box. Manager John Schneider alluded before last night’s game against the Mariners that Bichette had made significant progress behind the scenes, which includes some light work at shortstop.

Adding Bichette’s bat back into the lineup against the Dodgers would be a huge benefit for the Jays, provided he can find his swing again that made him such a dangerous hitter this season.
