A Toronto Blue Jays minor leaguer has been issued a 6-game ban for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
Pitcher Ivan Gonzales, who played for the Jays’ Dominican Summer League team, was busted after Stanozolol was found in his system.
According to drugs.com, Stanozolol is “a man-made steroid, similar to the naturally occurring steroid testosterone.” It can be used for treatment of “hereditary angioedema, which causes episodes of swelling of the face, extremities, genitals, bowel wall, and throat.”
The Jays signed him as a free agent to a minor league contract on Jan. 15 of this year and was assigned to the DSL Jays on June 4. This year, he’s thrown just 3.0 IP allowing seven hits and seven earned runs while issuing four walks, but has fanned five batters.
