The final game before the All-Star break is on Sunday afternoon.
After nearly blowing a 7-0 lead on Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays lost 4-3 to the Athletics on Saturday in a game in which they should’ve won. In total, the Jays were 1-12 with runners in scoring position while leaving eight runners on base. Their best chance to tie it came in the top of the eighth, as the Jays had runners on second and third and no outs, down by two. They scored just one run.
For the second consecutive game, the Blue Jays will face a left-handed pitcher. Unlike Saturday’s game, the Jays won’t have a full right-handed lineup. Ernie Clement bats lead-off again, followed by Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who is their designated hitter. Alejandro Kirk cleans up, followed by Addison Barger and Davis Schneider. Nathan Lukes, Myles Straw, and Will Wanger comprise the bottom third.
Notably, George Springer won’t be in the Jays’ lineup on Sunday, at least to start. Since winning the American League Player of the Week award, the outfielder/designated hitter has been struggling at the plate, slashing .091/.167/.136 with no home runs in 24 plate appearances.
The good news is that the Blue Jays have their best starter, José Berríos, on the mound. In his last start against the Chicago White Sox, the righty pitched six innings with just one run allowed and two hits against.
Let’s set up Sunday afternoon’s game!
