On Monday, just like before the opening game of every series, Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider provided an update on the status of the club’s injured players.
After announcing last Friday that Addison Barger’s 2026 season was over due to right elbow surgery, the extent of the injury became clearer on Monday. Barger underwent surgery to repair the damage rather than a full reconstruction, placing his return timeline in the six-month range.
The six-month timeline sets Barger up to be ready for the start of next season after a lost 2026 campaign. Barger appeared in only nine games this season due to various ailments that sent him to the injured list. In those nine games, Barger went 1-for-22 with two RBIs and five walks.
Another outfielder who has been sidelined is Jesús Sánchez. Sánchez has missed the past month while dealing with a right ankle sprain. After spending time rehabbing with the FCL Blue Jays and Dunedin Blue Jays, he will be moved up to Triple-A to join the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday.
Sánchez is likely to appear in a few games with the Bisons and, if all goes to plan, has a chance to return to the 26-man roster on Friday when the Blue Jays open a series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
After being acquired from the Houston Astros this past February, Sánchez has appeared in 73 games with the Blue Jays this season, batting .274 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs.
In more concerning news, right-hander Yimi García is set to see a doctor after experiencing further nerve and neck symptoms following a rehab appearance with Single-A Dunedin on Saturday. The visit will evaluate García for thoracic outlet syndrome in what is becoming a frustrating year.
García has made nine rehab appearances this season as he attempts to work his way back from last September’s elbow surgery. Over his nine appearances between the FCL, Single-A, and Triple-A, García has gone 1-0 with a 9.39 ERA and 1.96 WHIP across 9.2 innings pitched.
Left-hander Joe Mantiply, who underwent left knee surgery in May, has resumed throwing bullpens. After signing a minor-league contract in March, the 35-year-old impressed during his 17 games with the Blue Jays, going 1-0 with a 2.04 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.
Utility infielder Lenyn Sosa has started taking batting practice as he attempts to work his way back from a right wrist contusion. Sosa suffered the injury after being hit by a Sandy Alcántara fastball and has been on the injured list since May 28. Sosa appeared in three rehab games in June but was shut down after experiencing discomfort in his wrist.
After being acquired from the Chicago White Sox in April, Sosa has appeared in 28 games with the Blue Jays, batting .188 with one home run and six RBIs across 80 at-bats.
