Blue Jays’ Jesús Sánchez picks up two hits in first rehab game with Buffalo

Jesús Sánchez’s return to the Toronto Blue Jays’ active roster appears to be looming in the coming days.
On Wednesday night, Sánchez took what should be the beginning of his final step during his rehab process as he works his way back from a right ankle sprain that forced him to the injured list on June 27. 
Appearing in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons, Sánchez started in left field, playing seven innings, and went 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch. 
Batting third for the Bisons and squaring off with Lehigh Valley IronPigs left-hander Kolby Allard, Sánchez singled to right field in his first at-bat. The 28-year-old drove an 0-1 cutter, 103.5 MPH off the bat, showing off the raw tools that he possesses. 
Similar to his first at-bat, Sánchez once again drilled an Allard cutter. After getting ahead 2-1 in the count, Sánchez drove a 95.7 MPH line drive to left field to pick up his second hit of the evening. 
In his third at-bat of the evening, Sánchez grounded out to third base on a 1-1 slider. The groundout had an exit velocity of 90.9 MPH, but Otto Kemp was able to make the play and throw him out. 
In his final at-bat, Sánchez was hit by right-hander Grant Holman on an 0-2 splitter. Before his at-bat in the top of the eighth, Sánchez was replaced for pinch-hitter Ismael Munguia. 
Following tonight’s effort, Sánchez is now 3-for-10 with one RBI during his rehab stint, which has included stops in both the FCL and Single-A. After being acquired in an off-season trade with the Houston Astros, Sánchez has appeared in 73 games and is batting .274 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs. 
With a doubleheader scheduled for the Bisons tomorrow, Sánchez seems probable to get into at least one more rehab game in Triple-A before likely returning to Toronto before they open a series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
