The Blue Jays made a slew of moves on Sunday ahead of their series finale against the Chicago White Sox.
Brendon Little and Lazaro Estrada are heading to Triple-A Buffalo, the Blue Jays have recalled two arms whom they signed to minor league contracts in the offseason, Joe Matinply and Austin Voth.
Let’s get to know the two new relievers, who have a pretty sizeable resume in the show.

Joe Matinply

Joe Matinply joined the Jays back on July 13th of 2025, and was re-signed on March 3rd after he reached free agency at the end of last season. Matinply was a long-time bullpen arm for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and was an All-Star with the club in 2022. With a career 4.54 ERA in 256 career games, the 35-year-old is a experiecnd veteran, but struggled in 2025, leading him to be designated for assignment and released by the Diamondbacks before joining Toronto.
Matinply’s pitch selection features a sinker, changeup, curveball, and a four-seam fastball that can hit as high as 93 MPH. The left-hander is a groundball-oriented pitcher as he relies more on using his command than high velocity. Considering Mason Fluharty, the other left-handed pitcher out of the bullpen as of now, is more reliant on whiffs with his sweeper and cutter, Matinply can be able to lean on the solid defence the Blue Jays infield has to help provide more outs and focus less on strikeouts, as Little tried to do before his demotion.
Matinply is without a doubt a stopgap for Toronto, as they are also waiting to see if Patrick Corbin, who was signed officially on Friday, will see who else can come into the organization and help deal with left-handed batters.
The Bisons hurler allowed one run in two innings of work on Thursday against the Omaha Storm Chasers, who are the minor league affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.

Austin Voth

Ironically, Voth was originally signed with the Chicago White Sox back in February, before being released and signed by the Blue Jays a month later.
Voth will serve as a fresh arm that the club has opted to bring into the fold after Lazaro Estrada went four innings of work on Saturday.
The right-hander has experience as a starting pitcher, as he was originally one while he was with the Washington Nationals; however, since then, he has been bouncing back and forth between starting games and being used in relief.
Voth has a career 4.70 ERA and has not pitched in the majors since 2024 with the Seattle Mariners, but he does have 207 games of major league experience to his name. After spending the last year in Japan for the Chiba Lotte Marines, Voth pitched to a 3.88 ERA across 23 games in Japan.  A right-hander who throws for strikes using a fastball, cutter, and sweeper. Voth’s cutter has been the most used pitch in his career, along with his fastball.
Voth made one start for the Buffalo Bisons, where he went three innings, allowing a pair of runs off three hits, while striking out two batters.
It’s clear the Blue Jays want to see what their depth is all about and need some bullpen depth after Estrada went several innings yesterday. Voth is a potential innings eater the team can look upon while they wait for their reinforcement arms, such as Shane Bieber, Jose Berrios, Yimi Garcia and Trey Yesavage, to hopefully return sooner rather than later to the organization.
