Blue Jays prospect David Calabrese wins Northwest League Player of the Week

The Northwest League Player of the Week is once again a part of the Toronto Blue Jays organization. 
On Monday, it was announced that Vancouver Canadians outfielder David Calabrese took home the Player of the Week honours. 
In six games this week, against his former team the Tri-City Dust Devils, Calabrese batted .500, going 14-for-28 with two home runs, seven RBIs, eight runs scored, three doubles and five steals. 
Not only was it a big week, but Calabrese came through in big situations for the Canadians. The 23-year-old slugged a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning on Saturday during the Canadians’ 13-10 victory in 10 frames. 
Originally a third-round pick by the Los Angeles Angels during the 2020 draft out of St. Elizabeth High School in Thornhill, Ont., Calabrese was released on August 4 before being signed by the Blue Jays to a minor-league deal on August 12. 
In 16 games since joining the Canadians, Calabrese is batting .348 with three home runs and 10 RBIs. Calabrese has stolen seven bases in seven attempts and has reached base at a .386 clip since joining the Blue Jays organization. 
For the season between both the Angels and Blue Jays organizations, Calabrese is batting .249 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs. Calabrese has turned in a .314 on-base percentage and stolen 14 bases in 16 attempts. 
An outfielder who can play all three positions, Calabrese reached Double-A while in the Angels system, so with this strong finish to the year, he could earn himself a place in New Hampshire when the 2027 season rolls around. 
Calabrese became the 13th Canadian to earn a league award this season, with the most recent being Jake Casey who took home Player of the Week August 17-23.
