The Vancouver Canadians are set to receive another talented catcher to their roster.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Jaxson West had been promoted from Single-A Dunedin to High-A Vancouver after a strong showing to open the 2026 campaign.
While West missed almost three months due to injury, when healthy he has been tough to keep off the basepaths. Through nine games with the Blue Jays, West is batting .441 with one home run and six RBIs.
West has reached base at a .459 clip and has only struck out six times in his first 34 at-bats of the season. Even during his rehab assignment in the FCL, West was on everything, as the 22-year-old went 8-for-22 with one RBI and six walks before returning to Dunedin.
His success in 2026 is nice showing for West as after the Toronto Blue Jays selected him in the 16th-round of the 2025 MLB draft, the catcher struggled during his first taste at the professional baseball level.
In 16 games with Dunedin, West batted .160 with three RBIs, but showed an ability to reach base, drawing 11 walks against seven strikeouts over his first 50 at-bats. Selected 472nd overall out of Florida State University, West batted .236 with two home runs and 17 RBIs to go along with a .370 on-base percentage during his final season with the Seminoles.
West now joins fellow catcher Ryan Sprock, who was added to the Canadians roster following his acquisition from the Minnesota Twins on July 10 in exchange for Tommy Nance. Sprock was leading the Florida State League in OBP before being promoted to High-A in the Twins organization.
After only two games at that level, Sprock was acquired by the Blue Jays and has since joined the Canadians, where he has appeared in three games. Over that time, Sprock is 3-for-11 with one RBI and three walks.
