Blue Jays lefty reliever Tim Mayza has been activated off the 15-day IL and is active for Saturday afternoon’s tilt with the Detroit Tigers.
Mayza’s been a solid arm out of the bullpen for the Jays and one of the few lefty options there.
He was placed on the IL on May 16th, retroactive to the day prior, with inflammation in his left forearm. It’s the same issue that has plagued Hyun-Jin Ryu early on this season.
Across 13 innings of work this year, Mayza’s posted a 2.06 ERA along with a 1.00 WHIP and a 0.5 bWAR.
In a subsequent move, the Jays optioned righty reliever Jeremy Beasley to the Triple-A Bisons. He’s thrown four innings in the big’s this year posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.
As it stands today, the Jays left handed releivers have had a tough go. Tayler Saucedo and Andrew Vazquez both find themselves on the IL, leaving recent recall Matt Gage the only other lefty behind Mayza.
The Jays close out their series against the Tigers Sunday afternoon at 1:40 p.m. EST.
