The 2026 International Free Agency period is coming to an end.
Despite the window closing in mid-December (or December 2nd with the lockout), the Blue Jays still have some bonus pool money remaining. On early Saturday morning, the ever reliable Nolan (@NWints30 on Twitter) reported that the Toronto Blue Jays have signed two prospects: left-handed pitcher Cheng-Hao Wu out of Taiwan and right-handed pitcher Julio Chivilli from the Dominican Republic.
Wu, 19, is the second Taiwanese pitcher that the Blue Jays have signed in the last few months, as Nolan also reported that they signed right-handed pitcher Cai-Chen Long in early October. Nolan notes that Wu signed for a bonus around $200,000 and reaches 93 mph with his heater, also featuring a sinker, slider, and changeup.
Chivilli is a right-handed pitcher who spent his last season with Miguelon Baseball Academy. Little is known about his pitch mix, but Nolan reports that the righty tops out at 96 with his fastball.
He pitched at the WBSC Americas Beisbol Panam u-18 tournament earlier this year, appearing in four games where he gave up six earned runs over five and one-third innings of work, giving him a 7.88 ERA. Four of those six earned runs came in his final outing of the tournament.
The Blue Jays also signed a pair of right-handed pitchers in late-October/early November. On October 30th, they signed 19-year-old Nurberto German, then four days later, they signed 20-year-old Feremi Suriel. German stands at 6’3”, 190 lbs, and Suriel stands at 5’10”, 190 lbs. I couldn’t find any pitch mix information on either player.
One pitcher who is likely to sign is Eury Saldaña. Though not official yet, he’s off the market according to this instagram post dated back six weeks. He threw nine scoreless innings in the Amateur Scouting League earlier this year, striking out 15 of the 38 batters he faced. The 19-year-old righty stands at 5’11”, 159 lbs.
Following the Long signing back in early October, the Blue Jays had about $750,000 in bonus pool money remaining. It stands to reason that after these signings, they have around $500,000 in bonus pool remaining with a little over a month to use it. It’s worth noting that the bonus pool money doesn’t carry over.
