<p>Fresh off a home run derby win, Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been named the MLB The Show cover athlete for their 2024 edition.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s the latest of many accolades for Guerrero Jr., who becomes the latest superstar in the league to grace the cover, following Jazz Chisholm Jr., who was on last year&#8217;s cover, and Shohei Ohtani, gracing the 2022 cover.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been playing since a little kid, and now I&#8217;m on the cover,&#8221; Guerrero Jr. said in a promotional video, shared by the <a href="https://twitter.com/MLBTheShow/status/1752393022053196217">MLB The Show Twitter account</a>. &#8220;I&#8217;m really excited.&#8221;</p>
<p>Guerrero Jr. becomes the second Toronto Blue Jays player to be on the cover of the series, following in the footsteps of Josh Donaldson, who was on the 2016 edition of the game.</p>

And that&#8217;s why we shot the documentary for our cover announcement.</p>

<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m pretty sure we were the first sports video game developing studio to do this. We said, &#8216;Hey Vlad, instead of you coming to San Diego [where the game is produced], how about we go to your hometown, and you show us some of the places that are really important to your life and how you grew up?&#8217; So our fans can connect the dots and see that through-line of everything he went through to become such a great athlete and now be on the cover of the game.&#8221;</p>
<p>Vladdy Jr. has followed in his fathers footsteps in many ways across his MLB career, and being named to the MLB The Show cover is just the latest. Back in 2006, Vladdy Sr. graced the cover of that years edition, back when it was exclusively a Sony Playstation game. Now, fans of the game can play on the Xbox, or Nintendo Switch.</p>
<p>As part of the reveal, Sony aired a documentary featuring Guerrero Jr. and David Ortiz in the Dominican Republic, speaking about their connections from the country.</p>
<p>&#8220;Vlad Jr. talked about the baseball field that not only he played on and honed his skills on, but his dad played on the same baseball field, David Ortiz played on the same baseball field,&#8221; Russell added. &#8220;We were really happy, humbled and very excited to be able to peel more of the layers back. Instead of just, &#8216;Hey, here&#8217;s the cover athlete, here&#8217;s a really cool cover.&#8217; We wanted to take a deeper dive and tell a more human story.&#8221;</p>
<p>The game&#8217;s launch is set for March 19th, and in the run-up to its release, MLB The Show will be holding multiple livestreams releasing new parts of the game. Player ratings are set to be revealed on February 22nd, two days before the Jays kick off Spring Training games.</p>
