The Toronto Blue Jays are on the verge of sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals following a 7-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.

José Berríos got the start for the Blue Jays and picked up his seventh consecutive win with a commanding performance on the mound. The right-hander went seven innings and allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out four batters. He&#8217;s now 16-9 with a 3.44 ERA on the season.
The only damage that Berríos allowed came in the top of the third inning when right fielder Jordan Walker took a pitch that was hung over the wall in left-centre field. The Blue Jays responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Davis Schneider hit his first home run since June 22 to tie the score at 1-1.

The score remained tied until the Blue Jays finally got to St. Louis starter Kyle Gibson in the sixth inning. Nathan Lukes hit a single, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Spencer Horwitz both drew walks, and Ernie Clement cashed in a run on a ground ball that was dropped by the catcher at home plate. Gibson was pulled from the game in favour of reliever Ryan Fernandez, Alejandro Kirk added another run on a groundout, and Addison Barger and Davis Schneider hit singles to extend Toronto&#8217;s lead to 5-1.
The Blue Jays extended their lead in the seventh inning when Lukes hit a triple and Guerrero Jr. drove him home with a single. The RBI was the 500th of Vladdy&#8217;s career, making him the youngest player in Blue Jays history to reach the milestone. The 806 games he took to reach 500 RBI is the second-fastest in team history, behind only Carlos Delgado at 714 games.
