The first update for All-Star voting is out.

As it stands, there will only be one Blue Jay starter heading to the second round of All-Star voting. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. currently leads American League first basemen voting with 746,031 votes, ahead of Ryan Mountcastle’s 693,594 votes.

If this holds up, which it should, given that Canadian Josh Naylor only has 404,389 votes, Guerrero Jr. may well be the team’s representative for the All-Star game, which makes sense given the season he’s had.
This season, Guerrero Jr. is slashing .284/.374/.406, along with a 12.3 BB% and a 17.1 K% in 310 plate appearances for a 128 wRC+. The slash line is his highest total since that fantastic 2021 season, along with the same BB% for that season.There is one area in which he has lacked though, the power department. In 2021, Guerrero Jr. led the team with 48 home runs. However, he dropped to 32 home runs in 2022 and 26 home runs in 2023, leading the team the last three seasons.

There is a campaign led by Davis Schneider’s sisters to get the 24-year-old utility player to the All-Star game. <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/davis-schneiders-sisters-spearheading-his-all-star-game-campaign">Our very own Ian Hunter wrote a terrific article about that here</a>, but as it stands, he’s not even in the top five. His 249,853 votes has him sixth in second base voting, behind Andrés Giménez (265,999), Jorge Mateo (276,440), Michael Massey (341,510), Marcus Semien (539,223) and José Altuve (620,724).

Varsho leads the team in home runs, but only has 208,728 votes, 12th for outfielders. Thankfully, there will be six outfielders moving on to the second round of voting, and Alex Verdugo only has 293,984 votes, so it’s entirely possible Varsho could sneak in.
There are two more Blue Jays trailing Varsho, as George Springer has 190,854 votes and Kevin Kiermaier has 181,838 votes. Admittedly, neither of these players have played well enough to make the All-Star game.
The Blue Jays have some other players in the top five though. Danny Jansen ranks fourth in catcher voting with 212,782 votes, with Salvador Pérez occupying the second spot with 588,952 votes. Isiah Kiner-Falefa has 199,424 votes for third base, 167,246 fewer than Jordan Westburg who occupies the final spot to make the second round of voting.

Bo Bichette is a two-time All-Star, but his 231,694 votes has him fifth in shortstop voting, as Bobby Witt Jr. is second with 541,261 votes. Hard to argue that Witt Jr. doesn’t deserve a spot this season. Justin Turner also had 201,421 as the Jays’ designated hitter representative, far behind Giancarlo Stanton’s 406,610 votes.
With the Jays being fourth in the American League East, there’s a very real possibility that the team has one representative this season, and it wouldn’t be all that surprising if it’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
