First Major League Baseball game, first big league home run for Charles McAdoo.
The Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect didn’t have a great first two plate appearances, striking out looking in his first and popping out in foul territory on his second. But on a 1-1 count in the top of the seventh, McAdoo got an inside fastball, diving the ball the opposite way for his first career home run. It came off the bat at 98.5 mph and went a distance of 369 feet.
McAdoo was called up ahead of Thursday’s series opener against the Baltimore Orioles, but didn’t appear in what was a 2-1 Blue Jays victory. This home run was instrumental in overcoming a 5-0 deficit, as McAdoo’s two-run home run came two batters after Kazuma Okamoto hit a two-run home run of his own, his team-leading 12th of the season.
The Blue Jays acquired McAdoo ahead of the 2024 trade deadline, sending Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2023 draftee. McAdoo was a fast riser in the Pirates system, but struggled upon joining the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Those struggles continued for the first month and a half of the 2025 season, leading to McAdoo’s placement on the development list. It was a short stint, a little over a week, but once he returned, McAdoo finished the season slashing .267/.335/.469 with 15 home runs, while dropping his K% and making noticeable improvements to his contact rate.
And he continued his strong play into the 2026 season, slashing .250/.357/.432 with eight home runs and a 20.3 K% in 207 plate appearances with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
McAdoo is the sixth player in franchise history to hit his first home run in his first game, joining Al Woods, Steve Staggs, J.P. Arencibia, Devon Travis, and Davis Schneider. As you may recall, Schneider’s first home run came in his first plate appearance, the 132nd player in big league history to achieve that feat.
If McAdoo can keep hitting for power, he’ll keep his place on a roster that is starved for extra-base hitting.
