From one legend to another.
Edwin Encarnacion was in Toronto for game one of the Toronto Blue Jays’ series against the Seattle Mariners and threw out the first pitch of the game.
He delivered a ball right over the plate to Vladimir Gurrero Jr.
Encarnacion joined the Blue Jays amid the 2009 season in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds. Toronto acquired Encarnacion alone with Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart in exchange for Scott Rolen.
He went on to spent eight seasons with the Jays playing 999 games slashing .268/.355/.522 with a .878 OPS and 136 OPS+. Through his time with the Jays, he was named to three all-star games (2013, 2014, and 2016) and found his name on a number of MVP ballots, albeit down the list.Encarnacion finished his career in 2020 with 424 home uns, 239 of which came with the Jays.
