Wednesday’s Blue Jays game rained out, doubleheader to be played on August 26 in Boston

There was baseball on Wednesday.
Until there wasn’t. After just an inning, the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox were rained out, with the game being made up on August 26 at 2:05 PM ET.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was the only Blue Jays’ baserunner to reach in the first inning, drawing a walk, before Justin Turner grounded out to end the top of the first. Yariel Rodríguez, looking for a strong bounce back game after a rough outing in his last turn, generated three groundouts while walking a batter.
The rain really started coming down though, as George Springer struck out looking on a pitch that was likely too low. The next batter up, Davis Schneider, walked before the umps ultimately called for the tap, and eventually the game.
When the game resumes on August 26, Danny Jansen – or potentially a replacement depending on what happens at the deadline – will be at the plate with a 0-1 count.
Rodríguez continued to pitch in the bullpen after the game went into a delay, according to Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling. So technically, the 27-year-old threw four innings and should be on track to start on Canada Day.
Moreover, Bowden Francis was supposed to come in after Rodríguez, but will be available for the Jays in the upcoming games if need be, whether that be short or long relief, according to Zwelling.
Bowden Francis likely would have followed Rodriguez in Wednesday's game. He threw a side session on Tuesday and will now be available out of Blue Jays bullpen for both length or shorter outings during Blue Jays upcoming series against the Yankees
The Blue Jays now have two doubleheaders on their upcoming schedule. Their first series against the Baltimore Orioles also had two games, with the second game being rained out. The only difference is that the game never got started, and will be made up on July 29.
Of course, there have been several rain delays this season as well. The series finale in Kansas City saw the two teams play five innings before a lengthy rain delay and an unplayable field, resulting in a 2-1 Blue Jays loss.
Additionally, Toronto’s May 28th game against the dismal Chicago White Sox entered a rain delay in the middle of the ninth with the White Sox down 7-2. After nearly two hours, Tim Mayza threw seven pitches in the Blue Jays win.
Moral of the story is that every new stadium constructed should have a dome. Thankfully, the Blue Jays return home to their nice dome to host the New York Yankees for a four-game series to end the month of June. Ironically, the Yankees game was also in a brief delay.
