I think he can be a utility player in the majors. Elite infield defender especially at shortstop. Has some pop in the bat & runs the bases well.

Who is Mason McCoy?
The Blue Jays had to add Bo Bichette to the 10-day injured list, and as they cut Paul DeJong, they decided to call up Mason McCoy. Let’s take a look at what he has to offer.
Toronto designated Trent Thornton for assignment towards the end of July, and the Mariners traded 28-year-old McCoy to the Jays for the man known as Butters.
McCoy had somewhat of a power surge in 2022, slashing .256/.332/.473 with a career-high 21 home runs in 503 plate appearances. There was a little bit of swing and miss in his game, and he was certainly aided by the thin air of the Pacific Coast League, but it was noticeable.
Prior to the trade, McCoy had a .234/.330/.407 slash line with 11 homers in 383 plate appearances, while his K% jumped to 29.5%. Since the trade, he has a .192/.298/.274 slash line with a single homer in 84 plate appearances.
So what makes McCoy so interesting? Well, he’s considered one of the best defensive shortstops in the organization, even being called “elite” by someone who watches the Mariners minor leaguers often.
It’s likely that McCoy will get occasional opportunities to start, but will come off the bench as a defensive substustion. The 28-year-old may never have a season similar to his 21 homers in 2022, but if he can play defence at an above-average level with the Blue Jays, that’d be a huge help until Bichette returns.
