Another pick, another pitcher for the Blue Jays.
This time, the Blue Jays selected left-handed pitcher Connor O’Halloran out of the University of Michigan, It’s also worth noting that he’s a Mississauga native, and fellow Blue Jays Nation writer Nick Prasad wrote an article about him here.
Last season at the University of Michigan was his best, as he posted a 4.11 ERA in 103 innings pitched. He had a 25.5 K% and a 6 BB%.
His stuff won’t wow you. The left-handed pitcher sits in the high-80s to low-90s, but tops out at about 93 mph. It has an interesting angle and when paired with his deception in the windup, it’s a solid pitch.
A masterful start by Connor O'Halloran saw the sophomore lefty record 13 strikeouts in 8.0 innings of work as Michigan defeated Dayton 2-1 Thursday evening. #GoBlue
His best pitch is his slider, as it has a lot of sweep and sits in the low-80s, working against both righties and lefties. He also features a changeup with some fade, and it’s a solid third pitch.
Although his stuff isn’t the best in the class, he has phenomenal control of his pitches, being able to locate all three of them, an and w strikes.
He is ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 164th best draft prospect, and Baseball America’s 162nd best draft prospect. Below are his grades from the two publications.
Tool | Baseball America grades: | MLB Pipeline grades: |
Fastball | 50 | 45 |
Slider | 50 | 55 |
Changeup | 50 | 50 |
Control | 55 | 55 |

The next Blue Jays pick is the 184th pick. He is the son of Greg O’Halloran, who was also drafted bu the Blue Jays in 1988, and played just 12 games in the majors with the then Florida Marlins.
