Game Threat: Bless ACEstrada Starts, Braves (14-21) @ Blue Jays (17-22)

The Jays had their five-game winning streak snapped last night, but still have an opportunity to continue making up ground in the American League against the bad Atlanta Braves. And they have the ideal pitcher on the mound to get things moving back in the right direction, as Marco Estrada gets the start.

News and Scuttlebutt

Lots of things happening today. Leonel Campos is back down to Triple-A after one appearance, and Darrell Ceciliani is up to sit on the bench. Mike Bolsinger, despite his ugly outing yesterday, will get another go in the starting rotation. And finally, the good news! Tulo and Josh Donaldson are apparently going to be back soon, and the Jays have inked Jarrod Saltalamacchia to a minor league deal, oddly enough. Read about all of it by clikin’ that link above.

And now, the lineups…

Blue Jays

Marco Estrada: 49 IP, 3.12 ERA, 7.7 H9, 1.1 HR9, 2.8 BB9, 9.7 SO9

Jaime Garcia: 35 1/3 IP, 4.33 ERA, 8.2 H9, 1.0 HR9, 4.6 BB9, 5.3 SO9

I had actually completely forgotten that Jaime Garcia was on the Braves before I look at the team’s stats (and, well, what the hell the Braves have going on in general) to preview this series. To be honest, I had completely forgotten about Jaime Garcia in general. But yeah, here he is. Pitching for the Braves. He was once one of the best young starters in baseball, but Tommy John threw that off track. Now, he struggles mightily to throw strikes and isn’t getting as many whiffs as before. Marco Estrada, on the other hand, it great. He hasn’t thrown anything worse than six innings and two earned runs over a start against anybody other than the Rays. This is a winnable game for the Blue Jays, but yesterday was too. Hopefully they come through and get back on track and yesterday was just a quick blip.
