Game Threat: Part Two, Rays (35-32) @ Blue Jays (31-33)

The Jays are not within a game of .500 tonight, which means it’s actually possible for them to win! They’ll have to look better on both sides of the ball than last night’s disaster, though. Marco Estrada had his third straight rough game (don’t stop believing, my streetlight people), and the Jays could do shit-all against Alan Farina’s son* Jacob. Tonight it’s Francisco Liriano against Jake Odorizzi. We shall see how it goes!

News and Scuttlebutt

As we learned earlier, the Blue Jays will have to avoid the totally-not-a-sweep two game series “sweep” without Ezequiel Carrera. This actually hurt, because despite glaring deficiencies in the outfield, Carrera has actually posted a 112 wRC+ thus far (Mookie Betts is at 113, to use an example that’s obscenely friendly to ol’ Zeke). He’s been OK. AND NOW HERE COMES DWIGHT SMITH!

Should be fine, though, right? At least they’re not playing to get to .500!

As for other scuttlebutt, uh… I’ve heard that the experts are puzzled by Devon Travis’s latest injury. To wit:

Radio: SN590

And now, the lineups…

Blue Jays

Francisco Liriano: 38.1 IP, 5.87 ERA, 9.6 H/9, 1.2 HR/9, 6.1 BB/9, 9.4 K/9

Jake Odorizzi: 57.2 IP, 3.59 ERA, 7.8 H/9, 1.9 HR/9, 2.8 BB/9, 8.0 K/9

This… uh… wow, Liriano has really walked that many guys this year, eh? Of course, he spent some time on the shelf, and he did have that one outing where he walked four and only pitched a third of an inning, so… that number is inflated at least a little bit. Still, though. Yeesh! GOOD THING THE JAYS AREN’T PLAYING TO GET TO .500 TONIGHT!!! (They’ll be fine.*)

Lets see if Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum makes some trades to improve the club this year, or if they wait for the window to close. (If it hasn’t already).

  • Oz Rob

What a shame that we have Troy Tulowitzki on our team and yet when he comes up with a chance to do something, I always feel deflated because I know that invariably nothing well happen. Harsh, but true. Wish we could have seen him in his prime.

And nobody in the media mentions how poor he is playing with the stick which i find bizarrre. Whats his ops with the jays? Cant be higher than .750. Thoroughly disappointing and mediocre. One of the main reasons we keep on treading between 1-3 games under .500.
