Game Threat: Going For .500, Take Five. Blue Jays (34-35) @ Rangers (34-35)

After a gritty win last night, the Blue Jays will yet again have an opportunity to reach the .500 mark for the first time in 2017. I think it would be pretty fitting if they finally did it in Texas of all places.

News and Scuttlebutt

Some good news from Gregor Chisholm, as Aaron Sanchez will head to Dunedin to toss batting practice on Thursday. Apparently he might be back before the All-Star break. I just really hope that when he does come back this finger issue dealt with for good.

Remember last year when Michael Saunders was an All-Star? How about when it was suggested that he was the better player to sign between him and Jose Bautista? Well, life comes at you fast. Saunders was designated for assignment by the Phillies today. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s claimed or not.

And now, the lineups…

Blue Jays

Francisco Liriano: 45 1/3 IP, 5.36 ERA, 9.1 H9, 1.0 HR9, 5.6 BB9, 9.7 SO9

Rangers

Nick Martinez: 54.0 IP, 4.67 ERA, 9.3 H9, 2.2 HR9, 1.8 BB9, 4.8 SO9

I’m not sure why Kevin Pillar is still occupying the leadoff spot. He’s struggled for nearly a month now, and has regressed back into the swing at everything like you’re trying to hack away at a hornets nest Pillar we’ve known for the past two seasons. I would rather see Jose Bautista, a good on base guy who can work the count, in that spot, personally. Anyways, we have Francisco Liriano, who’s been very good since coming off the disabled list, going against Nick Martinez, the pitch-to-contact guy. I like this matchup for the Jays, who tend to do well against guys who don’t have overpowering stuff.
