They did it.
From winning the American League East, to beating the New York Yankees in the ALDS, to fighting back from an 0-2 defecit against the Seattle Mariners: the Toronto Blue Jays are heading to the World Series.
It was a back and forth battle right from the get-go between the Blue Jays and Mariners in the pivotal Game 7. The Mariners got on the board first, with Josh Naylor cashing in Julio Rodriguez from second base to put the visitors up early. Toronto answered back right away, with Daulton Varsho driving a single up the middle to score George Springer from second base, making it a tie game once again.
Seattle would take the lead back in the top of the third inning, with Rodriguez sending a Shane Bieber slider over the left field wall to make it a 2-1 game. Cal Raleigh would tack on another in the top of the fifth inning, making it 3-1 for the Mariners.
The Mariners tasked George Kirby with the start and the right-hander delivered through his outing, going four strong while allowing four hits, one walk, and just the one run before Bryan Woo took over. Woo was doing well in relief until the top of the seventh inning, with a leadoff walk to Addison Barger and a single Isiah Kiner-Falefa putting runners on first and second with zero outs. A key sac bunt from Andres Gimenez moved the runners over, ending Woo’s night.
In came Eduard Bazardo, and that’s when the magic happened for Toronto.
Up to the plate came George Springer, who was looking to put the ball in play to get some momentum going for the Jays. What followed was seventh inning magic that Jays fans are all to aware of. Ahead with a 1-0 count, Bazardo threw a sinker that caught a good portion of the plate and Springer quickly deposited the offeering over the left field wall, sending it 381 feet to a fan wearing the Springer Football jersey giveaway. It was 4-3 for the home team, and the crowd was going ballistic.
Needing to keep the pressure on, the Jays called upon Chris Bassitt, who pitched a clean eighth inning, and then asked Jeff Hoffman to get up and go close things out. And the right-hander delivered.
Facing the bottom of the Mariners order with Rodriguez set to be the third man up, Hoffman dispatched Leo Rivas and Dominic Canzone with back to back strikeouts, leaving Rodriguez the last out for the Mariners. It took six pitches, with Rodriguez driving the count full, but Hoffman was able to get the Dominican product to chase a low slider and Alejandro Kirk was able to hang on to the foul tip.
Jubilation on the field, cheers from the crowd, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. falling to his knees at first base while the team began to celebrate. It was a full-team win in the do-or-die Game 7, as the Jays called on Louis Varland (who has pitched in 10 of the 11 games this postseason), Kevin Gausman for an inning (who earned the win), and Seranthony Dominguez, who pitched a clean inning of his own as well.

It’s poetic that the Jays found a way to comeback and win this game; it’s been their mantra all season long to find ways to win games even when they’re behind on the scoreboard.
The World Series is heading back North of the border for the first time since the Jays went back to back in 1992 and 1993, and for the Jays faithful, they are hoping the club can add a third trophy to the mantle when all is said and done. They will welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers starting on Friday to kick off the World Series.
