Silvano Hechavarria is one of a handful of pitching prospects who made waves in the Toronto Blue Jays farm system in 2025.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s bi-annual prospect ranking, where we’ll look at the top 35 prospects in the system in the month of February. As always, I’ll look at the player’s stats, what other publications have to say, as well as my own observations of the players. If you missed the 18th-ranked prospect, you can read about Jake Bloss here.
Getting to know Silvano Hechavarria…
Position: Starting pitcher
Throws: Right
Born: March 18th, 2003
Acquired: 2024 International Free Agency
Previous ranking: 18th
In the summer of 2024, the Blue Jays signed the Cuban pitcher to a bonus of $240,000. Shortly after his signing, Hechavarria made 10 starts for the Blue Jays Dominican Summer League team, where he had a 1.84 ERA and 3.55 FIP in 49 innings pitched, along with a 29.4 K% and an 8.2 BB% as a 21-year-old.
He was noticeable that season, but Hechavarria was older than his competition, so he didn’t start to get helium until the 2025 season. Over four outings with the Blue Jays’ Florida Complex League team, the 22-year-old had a 2.12 ERA and 4.80 FIP in 17 innings pitched. His numbers improved in Single-A, as he posted a 1.90 ERA and 3.17 FIP in 47.1 innings pitched with the Dunedin Blue Jays, making seven starts in 11 appearances.
Hechavarria’s tenure with the D-Jays was also the level where he was the most successful at striking out batters in 2025, finishing his stint there with a 28.5 K% and 5.9 BB%. The Cuban righty got a look with the High-A Vancouver Canadians to end the season, authoring a 3.22 ERA and 3.40 FIP in 22.1 innings pitched, or four starts. There, he struck out 20.7% of batters while his BB% jumped to 8.7%.
All told, the 6’4”, 227 lbs righty finished his first full season in the Blue Jays system with a 2.28 ERA and 3.55 FIP, along with a 23.7 K% and 6.6 BB% in 86.2 innings pitched. Unfortunately, he won’t suit up for Cuba’s national team at the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Because of his strong season, the 22-year-old ranked as Fangraphs’ 13th-best Blue Jays prospect heading into the season. He’s a good strike thrower with a fastball that reaches the upper-90s. That publication is a little concerned about his slider, which MLB Pipeline ranks as a plus pitch. He also features a fringe changeup with above-average control.
The 22-year-old, who’ll be 23 years old before the start of the season, will likely repeat the High-A level to begin the season. That said, he could find himself in Double-A to end the season as long as he continues to pitch like he did last year.
