Cold and rainy here for @HbgSenators against @FisherCats. But that didn't keep Cavan Biggio from hitting this 2-run HR, his 10th.
A scout said he thinks Vlady Jr. is going to be better than Bryce Harper

The Blue Jays have hit sort of a dry spell recently with back-to-back series losses to Seattle and Boston. Thankfully the farm is loaded with players that make it easy to forget what’s going on right now because the vision of the future is so bright it’s almost intoxicating.
Here are some ridiculously exciting quotes from an article by Joel Sherman in the New York Post about Vlad for you to gush over:
“I get so excited talking about that kid. I think it is possible one day we will have two Hall of Fame Vladimirs from the same family.”
“I put Guerrero and Acuna ahead of Bryce Harper for what I think they are going to be. I think these kids are going to hit .310-.320 with big power every year. I thought Manny Ramirez was the greatest young prospect I have ever seen hit, and I would put these two kids with him.”
For context, Sherman’s article is about why the Jays, who are in New York this week to face the Mets, haven’t promoted baseball’s best prospect. Ross Atkins says it isn’t about service time, instead it’s about ensuring that Vlad becomes a more polished player defensively and on the basepaths. I mean, okay, sure. But so long as Vlad continues to hit the ball in Double-A to a tune of a .397/.447/.645 slash line while Kendrys Morales looks completely hopeless at the plate, it’s going to be hard to give a shit about how good he is at snaring balls at third base.

Hitting the ball nearly as well as Vlad in New Hampshire isn’t who you’d probably expect. While Bo Bichette has had a slow start to his 2018 season, Cavan Biggio has emerged as a top prospect worth following. Biggio smashed his 10th homer of the season over the weekend meaning he’s just one bomb shy of reaching his total from last season in roughly one-fifth of the games played.
How good has 4th-round shortstop Kevin Smith been for the @LansingLugnuts this year? Let's compare his offensive pace to 2017 Bo Bichette through 33 Midwest League games. (Caveat: Bo was 19 last year. Kevin is 21. Vladdy Jr. is 19 this year.)
Kevin Smith was named Midwestern League Player of the Week after going .500 with five doubles, a triple, and four RBIs. As Jesse Goldberg-Strassler points out above, Smith, a fourth-round pick from 2017, is hitting at a similar clip to Bichette last year at the same level. Obviously Smith is older, but it’s still very encouraging to see another potential star emerge in the lower levels of the system.
Smith and Kacy Clemens have been the stars offensively for Lansing this season. Clemens, who slashed a .301/.454/.624 line with the Lugnuts, was promoted to Single-A Dunedin last week.
