Addison Barger finished his season on a positive note.
On Monday afternoon, the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons announced that Addison Barger won their Player of the Week award.
From the 19th of September to the 24th of September, Barger slashed .333/.310/.519 with no walks, but a 27.6 K% for a 92 wRC+. The 23-year-old also hit his ninth home run of the season, well below his 26 home run mark in 2022.
Overall, Barger didn’t have a great season, as he slashed .250/.353/.403 with the Buffalo Bisons, hitting nine homers in 397 plate appearances. He had a 13.1 BB%, showing an improvement with his eye, while his K% dropped to 21.7% from nearly 25%.
Barger went down with an injury early in the year, which could explain his poor start. Once returning to Buffalo from the injured list, the infielder slashed .264/.365/.444 with eight homers in 293 plate appearances. Moreover, he had a 13.7 BB% and a 17.7% in this near-three month stretch.
The 23-year-old is on the 40-man roster and could see time with the Blue Jays in 2024. Current Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman will be a free agent after the season’s end, so the Jays will be looking to fill this vacancy. They could do that from the inside, by promoting either Barger or Orelvis Martinez.
Although he had a poor year in 2023, Barger still has some of the best power in the Blue Jays organization, paired with a great eye at the plate and a strong arm that’ll help him play third base or even a corner infield position.
