Edwin Jackson will be looking to build on his best outing of the season so far when he gets the ball on Monday night for the Toronto Blue Jays as they open a four-game home series against the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels hadn’t announced a starter for this contest as of Monday morning, with their plan reportedly to use an ‘opener’ for the game then bring in righthander Felix Pena. Still, Los Angeles is the betting favorite for Monday at -155 (wager $155 to win $100) on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Angels at Blue Jays | OddsShark Matchup Report
Jackson (1-4, 10.22 ERA) put an end to a personal four-game losing streak in his most recent outing last Wednesday, surrendering just two runs on four hits over five innings of work in Toronto’s 8-6 road victory over the last-place Baltimore Orioles. The righthander had given up 29 runs (24 earned) over just 14 2-3 innings combined in his previous four outings, and the Blue Jays are 1-5 in his six starts so far this season.
Pena (4-1, 4.55 ERA) has made 13 appearances for the Angels this season, including four starts. The righthander last pitched last Tuesday, giving up two runs on six hits over 3 2-3 innings in a 5-3 home victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pena had allowed seven runs in just 1 2-3 innings against the Oakland’s A’s in his previous outing.
The Blue Jays and Angels have already met once this season, with Los Angeles sweeping a three-game home set at the beginning of May by a combined score of 16-8. Overall the Blue Jays are just 3-7 in their last 10 games against the Angels dating back to last season, according to the OddsShark MLB Database, with the OVER/UNDER going 3-6-1.
The OVER, however, has managed to pay out seven times for totals bettors over Jackson’s last 10 starts since last September.
For Tuesday night the Blue Jays have Marcus Stroman (4-8, 3.18 ERA) on tap to face the Angels’ Tyler Skaggs (5-6, 5.00 ERA), while Aaron Sanchez (3-8, 5.04 ERA) gets the ball for Toronto on Wednesday against Andrew Heaney (0-1, 4.57 ERA) for Los Angeles. Thursday’s series finale has a probable pitching matchup of Clayton Richard (0-3, 7.52 ERA) for the Blue Jays against Jose Suarez (2-1, 4.50 ERA) for the Angels.
