Baseball America’s new Top 100 features Nate Pearson (7th), Jordan Groshans (29th), and Simeon Woods Richardson (61st)

Interested in some Large Adult Son content? Well, Baseball America has you covered, as they’ve released their much-anticipated annual Top 100 prospects list.

Given that Vlad Jr. and Bo Bichette, the organization’s top two prospects graduated this year, it’s pretty impressive that the Jays have three guys in the Top 100 ranking. We all knew Nate Pearson would be there as he’s arguably the best pitching prospect in baseball. Seeing Jordan Groshans get this much love from BA is really encouraging as he’s set to become the organization’s next big position player in the system. And, finally, Simeon Woods Richardson being ranked as high as he is mean that Marcus Stroman trade return that pissed so many fans off maaaaaybe doesn’t look too shabby.

Remember when everyone was mad the Jays didn’t get a Top 100 guy back for Stroman? Well, there you go!

The Jays also had six other names in the honourable mentions section who received votes (Baseball America’s writers all submit a ranking of 150 names and they aggregate it off of that). Those six guys were Alek Manoah, Orelvis Martinez, Eric Pardinho, Adam Kloffenstein, Gabriel Moreno, and Alejandro Kirk.

A big season from any of those guys and they could easily rocket up the rankings, but the one name I would keep my eye on is Martinez. An international free agent signed last summer, Martinez slashed a .275/.352/.549 line as a 17-year-old shortstop in the Gulf Coast rookie league. For the sake of comparison, Vlad Jr. slashed a .271/.359/.449 line in his 17-year-old rookie league season, though it was in the slightly better Appalachian League.

And, of course, the Jays also own the fifth-overall pick in next summer’s draft. So while Pearson, the top name on the list, could graduate this season, there are quite a few more names who could work their way onto this list by this time next year. The prospects! They’re good!
