Man, this team. I know we’re only a few weeks into the season and wins 3against the extremely-bad Royals shouldn’t mean all that much, but still, this group is electrifying. It’s such refreshing sight after the doom and gloom that was last year.

Things worth mentioning…

  • Have yourself a game, Teoscar Hernandez. This guy spent a few days in cold, shitty Buffalo and decided “good lord, I never want to be here ever again.” He went four-for-six today with a triple, a homer, and four runs batted in. At this point, given the way he’s swinging, and given the fact John Gibbons has always wanted him around, how do you send Hernandez back to Triple-A? Kendrys Morales is going to be activated for Friday’s game, and it would make sense to send Tim Mayza, the eighth reliever, back to Buffalo, but then what happens when Josh Donaldson returns? It’s a tough one.
  • Luke Maile did it again. In the fifth inning, Gibbons rode the hot hand and pinch hit Maile for Gift Ngoepe. The Maile Man delivered because, holy shit, he’s hitting everything right now. Maile ended up going two-for-two with a run batted in after coming into the game.
  • J.A. Happ had an OK start. He went six innings, scattering four earned runs on five hits and two walks. The brunt of the damage came on two big swings, one was a double by Mike Moustakas and one was a homer by Whit Merrifield. Otherwise, Happ was solid. The ‘pen was also solid after him. Danny Barnes had a shut down seventh inning, Aaron Loup allowed a solid homer, but him and Ryan Tepera closed the eighth. The Jays exploded for more insurance runs in the eighth as Curtis Granderson clubbed a goddamn grand slam just for fun, meaning Roberto Osuna didn’t have to come into the game.
  • All in all, it was another victory in which the Jays did a lot of things very well. They got on base, they hit for power, the offence came from up and down the lineup, they played well defensively, and they pitched well enough. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… The Blue Jays Are Actually Good.
