Blue Jays announce signings of 20 draft picks, so far

A week after the 2019 MLB Draft started, the Toronto Blue Jays have announced a total of twenty of their draft picks have been signed by the club.

The most significant signing of this bunch is certainly Kendall Williams. The 18-year-old pitcher committed to Vanderbilt University, one of the premier college baseball destinations, but has now decided to start his professional career.

In 10 appearances, the 6-foot-6 starter held a 0.91 ERA and struck out 48 in just 35 innings during his time at IMG Academy.

Another notable signing is fifth-round selection Tanner Morris, a likely candidate to return for his junior year at the University of Virginia. Earlier this year, in 223 at-bats during his sophomore year, Morris had an on-base percentage of .452 and was slugging .507 — a power bat that was also able to get more walks than strikeouts.

Adding to the pitcher-heavy selections by the Jays is high-schooler Michael Dominguez, a previous Florida State commit. Standing at 5-foot-11, he might not have the traditional pitcher frame but his fastball sits at a solid 93 MPH and had a strikeout rate of 16.5 K/9 in high school.

So far, these 20 signings, in a draft that some are calling a very good get for the Blue Jays, are a good sign that the shallow prospect pool might re-fill with some key talent.
