It’s the start of the best time of year — transaction season baby! To start it off, the Blue Jays have reportedly outrighted pitchers Buddy Boshers and Brock Stewart.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, the team has let the relief arms go and find new opportunities for their 2020 seasons.
Stewart, 28, was originally claimed off waivers in late July from the Los Angeles Dodgers and was able to pitch a total of 21 and 2/3 innings for Toronto for an ERA of 8.31 and struck out 16 batters. One can imagine that the Blue Jays aren’t really upset about him departing.
When it comes to Buddy Boshers — besides his amazing name — there was nothing really to worry about there either. The 31-year-old reliever signed with Toronto as a free agent in May and eventually found himself on the major-league roster.
Through 20 innings, Boshers had a 4.05 ERA and walked 10 while striking out 26. He even started a game.
The 2020 bullpen — and really the entire pitching staff — is the most interesting part of the off-season for the Blue Jays. There are essentially only a couple spots secured and a couple young arms like Anthony Kay and T.J. Zeuch that played themselves into slight contention for a rotation spot.
This winter will be one of the more fascinating ones in recent memory for the Jays.
