Edwin Returns To (Minor League) Action, Absolutely Crushes One

OK, look. Seeing Edwin Encarnacion effortlessly drop a bomb on some Pirates minor league scrub isn’t enough to have us conclude that he’s ready for the season, despite this being just his first taste of real-ish action of the spring. But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to watch it.
And thanks to Sportsnet’s Barry Davis, we can.
Davis has been giving at-bat-by-at-bat updates on Edwin, who only had one chance to swing as he walked in his first at-bat, then flied out to left in his second.
Then this happened:
No parrot walk — which is probably for the best, given the context here. No need to rub it in the face of… whoever the hell that is on the mound.
But the crack of that bat is awfully familiar. And the sound of pure awe from those assembled to watch it certainly is, too.
As I noted in today’s Game Threat, Edwin was utterly ridiculous last season, posting a 166 wRC+ from May 1st onward, after missing much of last spring as well (a number that only three true superstars, Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, and Joey Votto, produced over the course of the full year). Well, maybe he’s going to be up to speed even sooner this time around.
We can hope, can’t we?
For now, at least he’s on the field, feeling good, and exploding baseballs. It doesn’t get much better than that. Literally.
