Game Threat: A Brand New Month, Blue Jays (49-57) @ White Sox (41-62)
Time to put the month of July behind us (including last night) and dive head first into August. The Jays will look to start it all off tonight on a high note with Stroman on the mound. Hopefully August can be somewhat of an arbitrary starting point for a clean slate to mirror what the club was able to do in May. One can hope, right?
News and Scuttlebutt
Gibbons gave an update on the starting rotation. For now, the Jays will use the extra day off to pitch a four man rotation.
Following the trade deadline yesterday, the only Major League bat to move found his new home in the Jays clubhouse. Oberholtzer was the casualty to make room, being DFA’d after his call up yesterday.
Ross Atkins was chatting on Prime Time sports today. A great listen if you hadn’t had a chance to catch it.
Notably in that conversation came some great news surrounding Devon Travis.

And now, the lineups…
Blue Jays
Marcus Stroman: 3.08 ERA, 131.1 IP, 8.8 H9, 0.9 HR9, 2.9 BB9, 7.5 SO9
White Sox
Mike Pelfrey: 4.73 ERA, 83.2 IP, 8.7 H9, 1.4 HR9, 4.4 BB9, 5.9 SO9
Marcus Stroman didn’t get too far his last start. Walking six batters through 4.2 innings, Stroman was then ejected for “arguing balls and strikes”. It was the second game in a row Stroman was having trouble giving out free passes, giving out five the start prior. The Jays went on to win that game despite the early exit from Stro Show, but tonight Stroman will look to keep the walks down and stay in the game en route to hopefully a victory. Pelfrey could be a good matchup for the Jays bats as well with his low SO/9 and slightly higher propensity to giving up the longball.
