Joe Votto hasn’t played a game in Toronto against the Blue Jays since 2009. That was so long ago that Brett Cecil was starting for the Blue Jays and Russ Adams was the designated hitter. *whistles* Finally, Votto will get a chance to play in front of his future hometown team.

News and Scuttlebutt

There it is! J.A. Happ will be Toronto’s starter against the Reds. He’s been out since mid-April with elbow inflammation and has only made one rehab start, so we’ll see how this goes! Gibby hasn’t said what Happ’s pitch limit will be, but I imagine Happ won’t be going longer than four or five innings. The Jays also haven’t announced who will be removed from the 25-man roster for Happ.

And now, the lineups…

Blue Jays

Marcus Stroman: 62 2/3 IP, 3.30 ERA, 9.8 H9, 0.9 HR9, 2.7 BB9, 7.3 SO9

Joey Votto & Friends

Lisalverto Bonilla: 23 1/3 IP, 6.17 ERA, 8.9 H9, 1.9 HR9, 4.2 BB9, 6.2 SO9
This is a pitching matchup that really favours the Jays, as Marcus Stroman will go up against Lisalverto Bonilla, who’s only made a handful of big league starts in his career. The Reds have a potent lineup, but the Jays, since Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki were activated from the disabled list, aren’t borderline Triple-A slouches anymore.
