The Jays are 1-3 and have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, but apparently they’re going to play out the final 158 games of the season regardless.

Here’s a nice sight from good Twitter dude Brandon Kuhn, as the roof in Toronto is open in early April. Rogers Centre finished up upgrade to the roof recently that allows it operate in cooler temperatures AND makes it quicker to open and close. Does that mean we’ll have an open roof for the home opener on Tuesday? Hopefully! Because last season, the roof wasn’t open until, like, mid-May, if my memory serves me correctly, which sucks because baseball, as we’ve seen in The Abandoned Warehouse known as The House of Horrors in Tampa, playing baseball indoors is super “meh”.

With the Jays using seven-and-two-thirds worth of relievers yesterday, the team has optioned Dominic leone to Buffalo and has recalled Casey Lawrence, who was supposed to make the Bisons’ Opening Day start today. Good for Lawrence, who clearly earned this with his excellent spring performance. This time last year, he was a non-prospect. Now, he’s close to pitching in the Major Leagues. Bo Schultz was also moved to the 60-day DL in order to make room for Lawrence on the 40-man roster.

It didn’t take long, but Melvin Upton has found himself a new home, this time with the San Francisco Giants. The move to release him is still curious, and if he has a good season in San Fran, we’ll surely be hearing about it a lot from conspiracy theorists on twitter.

Aaron Sanchez: 190 IP, 3.00 ERA, 7.5 H9, 0.7 HR9, 3.0 BB9, 7.5 SO9

Chris Archer: 201 1/3 IP, 4.02 ERA, H9 8.2, 1.3 HR9, 3.0 BB9, 10.4 SO9

We’re inching closer and closer to the ideal lineup out there. Steve Pearce has moved ahead of Russell Martin in the order, which is great, because Pearce is a low-key excellent hitter, even against righties. I think I would rather have Zeke Carrera in left and Pearce at first, though, because of the added defence in the field, but at that point, you’re really splitting hairs.

Anyways, this is an ace vs. ace matchup today as Aaron Sanchez makes his first start of the season against Chris Archer. Archer pitched on Opening Day for the Rays, and was good, allowing two earned runs over seven innings of work in a win over the Yankees. Sanchez is coming off of that blister from spring training, but is apparently fine and ready to go. He’ll need to have a strong, long outing tonight, as the Jays had to exhaust basically their whole bullpen last night in the wake of Francisco Liriano’s disaster start.
