Game Threat: Feeling Salty? Blue Jays (1-2) @ Rays (2-2)
By Cam Lewis
7 years agoThe Jays earned their first win of the season last night with a commanding 5-2 win over the collection of people from Tampa named Ray, and will look to keep the good times going tonight as their B lineup faces a No. 5 starter.
News and Scuttlebutt
Zeke Carrera and Jarrod Saltalamacchia get a game, while Steve Pearce and Russell Martin get a break. Gibby says it’s because he wants everybody to get into a game early on in the season so that they can get their blood flowing and feel a part of it. Well, he didn’t say that, but that’s my elaboration, at least. It’s probably also a consideration that this team is old, and maaaaybe a little injury prone, so being liberal with the off days isn’t a bad idea. The baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint, you know.

And now, the lineups…
Blue Jays
Francisco Liriano (w/TOR): 2.92 ERA, 49 1/3 IP, 7.7 H9, 1.3 HR9, 2.9 BB9, 9.5 SO9, Nasty Stuff = Yes!
Rays
Matt Andriese: 4.37 ERA, 127 2/3 ERA, 9.2 H9, 1.2 HR9, 1.8 BB9, 7.7 SO9, Is good? = No
Like I said earlier, this is kind of a B lineup. It’s sort of curious that Russ is getting the day off today, considering the fact his old buddy Francisco Liriano is pitching, and the Jays play a night game tomorrow before a day game on Sunday. But whatever, Daddy Gibby knows best. I wonder if part of the reasoning for giving two better hitters a day off is the fact Tampa’s worst starter, Matt Andriese is pitching today, while Jake Odorizzi and Chris Archer, both of whom are good, will be getting starts on the weekend.
