Game Threat: J.A. Happ-ens To Be Very Good Against Baltimore, Blue Jays (0-1) @ Orioles (1-0)

7 years agoAfter a shitty post-Opening-Day off-day, the Jays are back in Baltimore for the second of two games with the trash birds. Jays Ace Happ will take the ball for his first start of the season against an Orioles team that he dominated last year in pursuit of Toronto’s first win of the season.

It looks like the Gavin Floyd era is over, as the Jays have released the oft-injured veteran. Floyd was solid for a few weeks in the ‘pen last year for the Jays, but got hurt, and ended up missing the rest of the season. It’s a shame he had such poor injury luck over his career, because Floyd was a damn solid pitcher.
Speaking of injuries to pitchers, Roberto Osuna is apparently progressing nicely, and will likely see action in a minor league game in Florida this weekend. The ‘pen was strong on Monday, but the Jays will certainly need Osuna sooner rather than later.

If you haven’t seen yet, MLB.tv isn’t going to blackout Jays games in Canada, which is awesome. There was worry all throughout spring, largely due to very, very bad communication problems, that we weren’t going to be able to watch the Jays on the excellent streaming service, and instead, we were going to have to pay for some Sportsnet Now nonsense. But that isn’t the case! Woo!

Last season, the Orioles posted an American League worst 83 wRC+ against left-handed pitching. It isn’t surprising, then, that J.A. Happ was excellent against the O’s, putting up a 3.54 earned run average and keeping hitters to a .224 batting average over three games last season. On the other hand, the Jays only faced Bundy as a reliever last season. He pitched 3 2/3 innings against the Jays allowing two hits and one walk.
