The Blue Jays will play the first half of a mini two-game series against the Rays tonight. Marco Estrada, who’s had a rough go against Tampa this year, will be opposed by rookie Jacob Faria, who had a very impressive Major League debut last week against the White Sox.

The big news today, in terms of injuries and not the MLB draft, has to do with Devon Travis. The second baseman underwent surgery on his knee and John Gibbons said he’ll be out for “a while.” What that means, we don’t know. But in better news, Aaron Sanchez will travel with the team to Texas next week and then begin a rehab assignment, and Steve Pearce will be back with the Jays this weekend. Here’s something interesting from FanGraphs that I sort of tried to illustrate in my Series Preview earlier today. Craig Edwards walked through an absolutely loaded AL Wild Card chase in which virtually everyone in the league seems to be in the picture fighting for a playoff spot. Should be fun!

So this should be an interesting matchup. Jacob Faria was good in his MLB debut last week against the Sox and has also been very good in Triple-A, while Marco Estrada, who’s generally very good, has had a hell of a time with the Rays this season. Estrada has allowed 10 runs in 11 innings over two starts against Tampa, struggling especially to keep the ball in the yard. Though, those two bad starts came at the House of Horrors, so a change of scenery back to Rogers Centre could cure the shitty indoor stadium ills.
