GDB 18.0: Can Chris Bassitt continue to rebound for the Toronto Blue Jays?

By Zach Laing
1 month agoGame one was a far from ideal start for Kevin Gausman and the Toronto Blue Jays.
The most consistent pitcher in the rotation was anything but last night as he got absolutely lit up. He lasted just 4.2 innings, his fifth shortest outing since joining the Jays, and got lit up for two homers and seven earned runs. While he managed to fan five and drop his ERA to 3.65, it was far too big of a hole for the Jays to dig out of.
Chris Bassitt returns to the mound tonight for his fourth start of the season. After getting lit up in his first start of the year against St. Louis and struggling early in his second against the Angels, Bassitt rebound nicely last week against the Detroit Tigers. He’ll be in tough against an Astros team that can hit for power.
Both the Jays and Astros are still trying to find their next level in terms of offence. Houston has left 133 batters on base this season, the second most in the bigs this season, while the Jays themselves are right behind them leaving 132 on base. Bassitt and Jose Urquidy, who gets the mound for the Astros, will look to keep that up.
