The lineup change may have been just what the Blue Jays needed.
Skyrocketing Danny Jansen up the lineup and George Springer to the six-spot played key parts in the Blue Jays’ series-opening win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.
Jansen went 3-for-5 at the plate, driving in five runs and was a key part of the 9-3 win. Now, a day later, the lineup will largely stay the same for Game 2 of the three-game series. The only shift for the Jays will be Kevin Kiermaier coming out of the lineup and Ernie Clement coming in, and that’s because of who the Jays are squaring up against tonight: lefty reliever to starter Garrett Crochet.
While none of the Jays starters have faced off against Crochet in the past, a number of Jays have mashed against lefties this season. In fact, all of Daulton Varsho, Ernie Clement, Justin Turner, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Jansen and Davis Schneider have posted a wRC+ greater than 132. That should bode well for the Jays, but it won’t be easy.
Crochet has been tremendous to start the year, with his xERA and FIP both greater than his actual ERA and a 12.2 K/9 that sits tops in the big leagues. Let’s see what they can muster up.
