As we wait for Nate Pearson to take on the Trash Birds tonight, here are a couple of injury updates to fill the time…
First, there’s Rowdy Tellez, who was removed from last night’s game in favour of Brandon Drury. Obviously, you don’t really go out of your way to get a guy with a .245 OPS into the lineup in favour of a big bat, so it was pretty obvious that something was up.
It turns out that Tellez is in concussion protocol right now (I’m assuming it was that play early on when Tellez collided with an Oriole running to first and he smacked himself in the head in the process) and he’s day-to-day.
Second, Bo Bichette has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, which is apparently considered minor with no long-term effects. This is much, much less terrifying than the report from a couple of days ago that said the injury to Bo was “worse than expected.”
It’ll take some time for him to get back to action, but, thankfully, there isn’t supposed to be any long-term issues. Even if he won’t be ready until mid-September, there’s no point in rushing Bo back. Just let him get healthy.
And, finally, there isn’t anything new on Ken Giles or Derek Fisher. Last I heard, Giles is set to start throwing off of a mound within the next week and Fisher has been running the bases. There isn’t a timetable for either to return yet.
