It seems the Edwin Jackson era has come to an end

To be honest, I didn’t think we were going to see Edwin Jackson again this season after he was placed on the Injured List a few weeks ago with a back issue. But Jackson swapped roster spots on the roster with Clayton Richard, who hit the IL after suffering a lat injury, and made what will very likely be his last appearance as a Blue Jay Monday night in Boston.

As Benny Fresh suggests, last night’s relief showing was one of Jackson’s best on the season. I mean, the standards are wildly low, as Jackson came into his outing having allowed 35 runs over the course of 25 innings. But still, Jackson tossed three scoreless frames last night after Trent Thornton couldn’t escape the second inning and Sammy G, the usual mop-up guy, got knocked around. This strong three innings lowered Jackson’s ERA from 12.43 to a sparkling 11.12.

I imagine nobody is in a rush to pick up Jackson at this stage and that he’ll clear through waivers and report to Triple-A Buffalo to eat innings in the minors. As I said, I doubt we see Jackson again as the Jays would have to remove somebody from the 40-man roster in order to get him back on the team. At this point in the year with the trade deadline rapidly approaching, I think we’re soon going to be fully into prospect mode, which is why I can’t see Jackson occupying a 40-man spot again.
