Jays finally take a series with 7-4 win over the Twins

It was a long time coming, but the Toronto Blue Jays have finally won a series in 2019. With the 7-4 win over the Minnesota Twins this Thursday afternoon, the Jays have taken this four-game series.
For only the third time this season, the Jays have scored at least seven runs in a game. Severely lacking any consistent offence, this team has certainly improved after a disastrous couple of weeks to start their 2019 season. It seemed like they would just be a black hole of at-bats, but now some players are getting some heat.
Grichuk, Hernandez, and Smoak homered this afternoon and Eric freakin’ Sogard was able to bat in three runs.
The best thing to see from this game was this team having some fun. Destined to be a miserable team full of temporary players, for now they seem to at least be enjoying their game — at least there’s a couple of characters to get behind.
Worth Mentioning
- The Jays offence was fairly active in this one. Grichuk was able to hit 1-2 solo home run deep into left centre field in the first inning, his fourth on the year. In the fourth inning, Smoak hit a two-run home run to right field, scoring in Grichuk as well who was able to get on base with a single during the previous at-bat. After Tellez singled, Drury walked, and McKinney singled to load the bases, Sogard came up and hit a massive line drive double to score all three and give the Jays a 6-3 lead. All in the fourth, the Jays are slowly increasing their offensive ability…so slowly.
- One hitter that is severely struggling is Brandon Drury. Just some atrocious streaks of being completely useless when it’s his at-bat. Him and his .423 OPS in Toronto are really making it easy for management to allow Vlad some important reps at third this season. There really is no excuse for not putting the young phenom at his desired position at this point.
- Making his second start as a Blue Jay, Clay Buchholz lasted 4.2 innings, not qualifying him for the win. An unfortunate bloop gave Montoyo the reason to pull him with just one out short. He allowed six hits, three earned runs, walked three and punched out four while giving up a single home run to Eddie Rosario.
- Locked in All-Star Freddy Galvis didn’t have the best offence game today but a couple of superb defensive plays, including a robbery of a line drive, shows what they really have in their free agent signing — someone that will contribute something at least the majority of the time.
- Pannone, Mayza, Tepera, Biagini and Giles all secured the win for the Jays. The bullpen was supposed to be the strongest part of the roster and they’re really showing that now. The only run allowed through the last 4.1 innings was a solo home run by Eddie Rosario, his second of the game, coming from Tim Mayza. Biagini was given the win and deservingly so with a 1-2-3 eighth inning with one strikeout. Giles earned the save with two strikeouts for himself.
