All good things must come to an end.
On Monday, two lengthy win streaks came to an end, as the Blue Jays’ affiliates went 2-4. It wasn’t a great day for the system, as the big league team also lost 3-1 to go back to eight games under .500.
Let’s dig into what happened in the minor leagues in the latest Minor League Report!

Buffalo survived a late rally

On Monday, the Buffalo Bisons defeated the Rochester Red Wings 8-7 to bring their second-half record to 3-4.
For a guy that hadn’t hit a home run since 2022 in affiliated ball, Gabriel Cancel sure hits a ton of home runs, as his third home run of the season on Monday was his third in as many games.
Phil Clarke is likely the Jays’ best catcher in the system, as he hit his first home run as a Buffalo Bison and his first of the season. The offence has always been there for the 26-year-old, but we’ll see if he can get better behind the dish.
Along with his third homer, Cancel hit his third double of the season, while Cam Eden hit two doubles for nine on the season. Steward Berroa also had a multi-hit game with two singles, driving in three runs, while Rafael Lantigua had the team’s other hit.
Nick Fraze started the game for the Bisons, giving up an earned run in three innings, along with three strikeouts. Ryan Burr had a tough one, giving up four earned runs in a third of an inning. Luis Quiñones picked up the win bringing his record to 7-0, striking out five in two innings and two thirds.
Erik Swanson had a good outing, pitching an inning and two thirds giving up a hit. Eric Pardinho gave up two unearned runs with two walks and a strikeout. Connor Cooke picked up the save, walking two batters and striking out one in an inning of work.

New Hampshire’s rally falls short

In the ninth inning of the Bisons game, the Red Wings were down by three, scoring two runs in a losing effort. The same happened to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, who fell 4-3 to the Portland Sea Dogs to bring their second-half record to 2-4.
The only extra-base hit in this game came off the bat of Rainer Nuñez, who hit his seventh-home run of the season to drive in two runs in the top of the ninth. He’s starting to look like his 2022 self.
Nuñez was one of three players with a multi-hit game, as Josh Kasevich and Alex De Jesus each had two singles. Ryan McCarty and Garrett Spain also had a single.
Devereaux Harrison had the start, finishing with a line of 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER (3 R), 2 BB, 4 K to bring his season ERA to 4.71. Braydon Fisher gave up an unearned run in his inning of work, while T.J. Brock struck out two in his inning of work. Justin Kelly picked a scoreless inning with a walk.

Vancouver’s win streak ended

After winning nine straight games to start the second-half, the Vancouver Canadians win streak came to an end on Monday, falling 5-4 to the Everett Aquasox. They have a 9-1 record, leading the Northwest League.
The bats were quiet on Canada Day for the Canadian minor league team, as Nick Goodwin hit the team’s only extra-base hit, a double, as well as their only multi-hit game. Dasan Brown, Je’Von Ward, and Jeffrey Wehler had the team’s other three hits.
Lazaro Estrada started the game for the Canadians, pitching five innings with five runs – only two earned – while giving up three home runs and nine strikeouts. It was a mixed bag for the 25-year-old.
Aaron Munson was the first out of the pen, striking out three and walking two in two innings of work. He hasn’t given up a run in his three innings of work for the Canadians. Conor Larkin continued his terrific season, striking out five in two innings of work to bring his season ERA to 1.31.

Dunedin won 9-4

The Dunedin Blue Jays were back to their winning ways on Monday, as they defeated the Clearwater Threshers 9-4 to move their second-half record to 4-5.
There were a handful of players with doubles, as Adrian Meza hit his first of the season, Robert Robertis hit his third of the season and Arjun Nimmala hit his sixth of the season. Nimmala also had a two-hit, as did Edward Duran and Jean Joseph, who each hit a single. Joey Votto and Victor Arias each hit a single.
Nolan Perry made the start and struggled with command, giving up six walks but only one earned run in four innings, the same number of innings as he had strikeouts. Keiner Leon was the first out of the bullpen, giving up a hit, an earned run, a walk, and a strikeout. The rehabbing Dahian Santos essentially had the same line, but struck out two and gave up a home run.
Juanmi Vasquez picked up the win, giving up an earned run and three walks in two innings of work, but striking out three. Eliander Alcalde walked a batter in his inning of work.

FCL Jays lost again

The Florida Complex League Blue Jays can’t stop losing, as they fell 9-6 to the FCL Yankees to move their record to 9-32. Yikes.
Yhoangel Aponte was demoted to the FCL and hit his first home run of the season at the level, and his fourth of the season, in the third inning. Maykel Minoso and Carlos Vasquez each hit a double, while Minoso and Kendry Chirinos each had a multi-hit game. Enmanuel Bonilla  walked twice.
Samuel Colmenares started the game, finishing with a line of 1.2 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K with a home run given up to bring his season ERA to 5.59. Jorge Guerra pitched two innings and a third with a strikeout and a walk. Franly Urena pitched an inning, striking out the side while giving up two walks.
Lluveres Severino had a rough game, as he gave up four earned runs, eight hits, and two walks in an inning and two thirds. Felipe Bello had to finish the inning for him.

DSL Jays win streak also ended

Just like the Vancouver Canadians, the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays had a lengthy nine-game winning streak snapped. On Monday, they lost 5-2 to the DSL Tigers 2 to bring their record to 14-6.
It was a quiet day with the bats for the DSL Jays, as Randy Soto, Yorman Licourt, David Beckles, and Pascual Archila each had a single, with the latter walking twice. Dariel Ramon and Franklin Rojas also walked.
Eduar Gonzalez had the start, finishing with a line of 4.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K to bring his season ERA to 2.18. Danny Martinez gave up two earned runs and three walks in an inning and two thirds, while Edgar Gallegos gave up an earned run in the same total of innings.
