Get him well. For fuck sakes, get him well.
So much of the success of the 2017 Toronto Blue Jays depends on Josh Donaldson being Josh Donaldson, and as we saw at the end of last season, when he struggled with a balky hip, the man is human. Donaldson’s 134 wRC+ in the second half was excellent, and most players would gladly take the 116 mark he posted in September, but there was a noticeable drop-off from his incredible 170 mark in the first half.
Donaldson’s overall health matters a hell of a lot more than missing a game or two, and so if that means missing the Home Opener just to give his yet-again-barking calf some extra rest, so be it.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, it’s a shame that he won’t be playing on one of the Jays’ few Guaranteed Party nights, and a night to celebrate the coming season, and the success of last year — which… a fucking Wild Card banner? Really? — but I don’t think there is a single (grown-ass) fan who’ll be miffed about it even a little bit, given his immense and obvious importance to this lineup.
So… there’s that. Also this:

Hey, so that’s at least some good news. Now let’s hope to piss we get to see young Roberto on the hill, closing out a win, and helping the Jays start to climb out of the small hole they’ve already dug for themselves after last week’s ugly road trip.
Or… better still, let’s hope he gets another day of rest and they blow the fucken doors off Wily Peralta and the too-useless-to-even-hate Brewers, eh?
