Jorge Soler remains a popular item amongst Major League Baseball’s intriguing DH market.
The 31-year-old slugger, who’ll turn 32 next month, has drawn interest from at least four teams this winter, as MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand writes, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Soler is coming off a remarkable 2023 season with the Miami Marlins, where he blasted 36 home runs – the second-most of his career – with 75 RBIs and a .250/.341/.512 slash line over 137 games. He also earned a 126 wRC+, making him worth 1.9 fWAR, the second-highest rating of his career.
The hard-hitting righty exercised an opt-out clause in his contract earlier this off-season, forgoing the final season of his three-year, $36-million deal with the Marlins. That meant betting on himself rather than earning $9 million in 2024, a figure he’ll undoubtedly surpass on his next contract.
Feinsand also mentioned the Blue Jays as a club interested in fellow DH J.D. Martinez – joining the New York Mets and Detroit Tigers in that regard. The Los Angeles Angels and D-backs could also be potential fits for the six-time All-Star.
Martinez, on a one-year deal worth $10 million, hit 33 bombs and drove in 103 runs in his resurgent year with the Dodgers, slashing .271/.321/.572 with a 135 wRC+ across 113 contests, worth 2.2 fWAR.
Other players Toronto has been previously linked to that’d address its need at DH include Joc Pederson, Justin Turner and Rhys Hoskins.
