Report: Buck Martinez could return to broadcast booth next week

10 months agoGreat news baseball fans, broadcaster Buck Martinez could potentially make his highly-anticipated return sometime next week.
The Toronto Blue Jays begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday, starting with a series versus the St. Louis Cardinals and followed by the Detroit Tigers, and that’s when Martinez could resume his duties in Sportsnet’s broadcast booth, according to Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun.
This would surely be a special moment for Blue Jay fans. Martinez, a colour commentator since 2010, left his position due to his cancer diagnosis back in April. The 73-year-old has since completed his treatment and will soon be ready to rejoin partners Dan Shulman and Pat Tabler.
During MLB’s annual Stand Up To Cancer event, which is held at the All-Star Game, first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. held up a sign in tribute to Martinez and Sportsnet host Jamie Campbell, who also announced his leukemia diagnosis earlier this season.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal also honoured Martinez and Campbell in Los Angeles, displaying his own Stand Up To Cancer sign that featured each of their names.
The Blue Jays are 50-43 this season, good for third in the AL East Division and second in the wild-card race.
