From the Red Sox to the Blue Jays.
Toronto is reportedly signing recently released CF Jackie Bradely Jr., who had spent nine of his 10 seasons in the majors with the Red Sox.
Bradley Jr. was drafted by the Red Sox in the 1st round of the 2011 draft and joined the team two years later. He spent the first nine years of his career there between 2013 and 2020 appearing in 873 games. He slashed .239/.321/.412, but signed with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021. He spent the season there, but was sent back to the Red Sox ahead of this season in the Hunter Renfroe trade.
His numbers at the plate have dipped a bit from his career averages this season slashing .210/.257/.321 with three homers and 29 RBI. His WRC+ sits at just 58 on the year with a fWAR of -0.4. His defensive numbers have dupped this year, too, with -2 DRS and 1 OOA.
The move adds some more depth to the outfield for the Jays in the wake of George Springer heading to the IL with his elbow injury, and Bradley Jr. could be a replacement for Bradley Zimmer.
Bradley Jr.’s numbers at the plate are better than the abysmal slash line of Zimmer, who has hit .107/.212/.240 this year.
We’ll see if there’s a coinciding move from the Jays here.
