Sanchez suffers blister in game against White Sox

In a demolishing of the Chicago White Sox, starter Aaron Sanchez left early due to an apparent finger injury after training staff evaluation.

In a potential bounceback season, Sanchez is now looking at some substantial time out after he was checked out of the game Friday night. He has dealt with finger issues previously, especially blisters that caused him to miss a large portion of the 2018 season.

The 26-year-old has made nine starts before Friday, a total of 48 innings with an ERA of 3.75, 8.63 K/9 rate and a 1.50 WHIP.

After some early control struggles this season, it appeared that he was on-track to at least return to some of his 2016 form and be relied on in the number-two spot for the rotation. But with him now missing some time, the future looks bleak and uncertain for the Jays starters.

Already down to four starters, the Jays were set to have a bullpen day for Saturday’s game against the White Sox, but with Sanchez leaving in the fourth inning, it’s drastic.

Sam Gaviglio came in relief of Sanchez on Friday and has been a key member in the 2019 bullpen. His ability to eat up a few innings has been crucial for some early blowout deficits that the non-factor Jays starters have given. Whether or not he’s an option for any starts? It’s a possibility because why not in a season like this.

Even with the acquisition of Edwin Jackson, the Jays face a rotation crisis that might be too far gone to even remotely fix. If Sanchez is out for any significant time, this season might turn into even more of a disaster.
