Was this just Ross Atkins doing us all a solid, or what?
Maybe there was an actual reason for this or maybe it was because the front office was bored and it was Transaction Friday, but the Blue Jays have optioned Anthony Kay and Sean Reid-Foley to Triple-A Buffalo. So, they’re going from one team that isn’t playing games to another team that isn’t playing games. Exciting stuff!
Eight players have been optioned thus far (Kay, Reid-Foley, T.J. Zeuch, Julian Merryweather, Thomas Hatch, Hector Perez, Elvis Luciano, and Patrick Murphy, while Yennsy Diaz went on the 60-day Injured List) meaning the Jays have 32 players on their active roster.
Opening Day was supposed to be on this upcoming Thursday, but, as we know, that isn’t going to be the case due to COVID-19, so it isn’t like the Jays are in any rush to get down to the 26-player limit. Regardless, Kay and Reid-Foley aren’t going to crack the roster when baseball resumes, which isn’t much of surprise anyway.
