The Braves are in town! You know what that means? It’s time to drink exactly one beer and complain about how things coulda been if Alex Anthopolous stuck around!
Jokes aside, I’m still a big fan of AA and what he did here. I have faith in the new front office and what they’re doing, but AA will always have a special place in my heart for bringing baseball back to life in Toronto. He took risks, some of them blew up, but a bunch of them landed. If not for his gutsy deals, there’s a very, very good chance we’re still in a playoff drought that began in 1993. Knowing how things worked out, the streak and the bat flip in ’15 and the wild card game and the sweep in ’16, I would do all of AA’s trades over again without hesitation.
I’m excited to see what he can do with a loaded prospect pool in Atlanta.

Remember the last time a Canadian took the mound against the Blue Jays in Toronto? Of course you do. James Paxton tossed a no-hitter. Will 20-year-old Mike Soroka do the same? Hopefully not! This will be the Calgarian rookie’s first start north of the border. Soroka has been impressive through his short big league career. He’s made four starts, allowed one or fewer runs in three of them, owns a 2.57 ERA, and has 19 strikeouts to just five walks. Like I said, impressive stuff for a 20-year-old. Jaime Garcia will start for the Blue Jays. Garcia has been back-and-forth since coming off the disabled list, putting up a good start and then following it up with a bad start. If the pattern continues, maybe he’ll be good against Atlanta?

Anibal Sanchez has been… good? Sanchez was a castaway from the Tigers after a few miserable seasons. He signed with Atlanta in March, started the season in Triple-A, and worked his way back to the bigs. Over six starts, Sanchez owns a sparkling 1.93 ERA. He’ll go against J.A. Happ who hasn’t allowed an earned run over his last two starts.
